| Troy - Ayvacik - Assos - Balabanli Village Tour and Stay in Canakkale or Eceabat After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel around 08:00 and then drive to Troy to proceed to the ancient site of Troy, 36km south of Canakkale. Your guide will walk you around the 9 layers of ancient cities built on top of each other the earliest dating back to 3000 B.C. The commentary is filled with mythical stories of the site & surrounding areas while filling you in on the history of the excavations past & present. The story of Troy is part-mythology & part-archaeology. On tour you will visit: * A replica of the wooden horse that you can climb into for a photo. * City walls dating from early Bronze Age up to the Romans, in all, 9 different settlements. * Excavation information centre which holds exhibits from the work underway. * The fortification walls of Troy Vl with its tower & gateway entrance. * Temple of Athena - the focal point of a great annual festival in honour of the goddess Athena. * Schliemann’s trench - the discoverer of Troy? * The entrance ramp to Troy ll. * The sanctuary - an important religious centre of its time. * The odeon - intended for the presentation of musical performances. After visiting Troy, depart for Ayvacik – a small non touristic town with a great Friday market where you can buy all sorts of local produce, fruit & vegetables and handicrafts. You’ll have plenty of time to wander around and maybe even pick up a few bargains! You will have a pleasant choice of local foods which you may buy for your lunch. Then, we depart for Assos, A traditional stone house village set upon a mountainside with a beautiful harbour down the bottom, overlooking the island of Lesvos. Here we will tour the Temple of Athena on the highest point of the mountain and have Turkish tea at a local Cay (tea) House which has an extraordinary set of coffee tables to sit at. Late afternoon departure for Balabanli Village, Here you will wander the traditional village seeing sights such as the old wheat crushing wheel and the thatched summer houses for the sheep. Your day out will be topped off by a visit to local house. A small stone built house which is full of Turkish hospitality and a cook who can whip up a storm. Mother will then delight you with her traditional home cooked dinner in which we will all sit together as family and share the meal. Late evening departure for Eceabat.
